Pet Bull Palooza? Pit Bulls in the Bronx!

Smiles everywhere!

I had another great experience working with Best Friends Animal Society on Saturday, October 23rd. This time it was in the Bronx, raising awareness for the sake of pit bulls. Gotta love the bullies.

The number one thing I heard over and over, and over again was “Thank you.” Everybody I spoke to was genuinely appreciative of the event BFAS so perfectly orchestrated. Although there was a handful of people so loyal to the idea of their dog not getting spayed or neutered, Best Friends volunteers were able to campaign the idea well enough that most of those dog owners understood the benefits and agreed to follow through. Free vaccinations and microchipping were also provided.

Strut Your Mutt 2010

My favorite organization, Best Friends Animal Society, held a fundraiser here in Manhattan (see story here) on Sunday, September 26th to promote homeless pet awareness and to raise money for their “No More Homeless Pets” campaign. The goal was to reach $125,000 — which was exceeded by nearly $8,000!

I was asked to volunteer my photography at their Kissing Booth. We had such an excellent time, received some generous donations for the organization, met so many wonderful people and dogs, and got some great pictures in the process! All for a great cause.

Perhaps we met there? Below you will find the link to all of the photos I took that day. The photos are free to download.

If you are interested in purchasing some prints (discounted pricing) for yourself or as a gift for the Holidays, you can go to the Strut Your Mutt proof gallery below:

I will be donating 10% of all sales to Best Friends.

Liberty and I met with a few spunky Chihuahuas on Monday. I was contacted by Pawsitively Famous Animal Actors in their search for a Great Dane. We filmed for about 20 minutes to get some footage for the upcoming season of Animal Planet’s Dogs 101. Great fun! We met some wonderful people.

A Bond, Understood

“If you don’t own a dog, at least one, there is not necessarily anything wrong with you, but there may be something wrong with your life.” – Roger Caras

Fenella, Westie & Walter, groomer

There’s a bond between a good groomer and a dog in need of grooming. A good groomer is crucial to this process. It’s all about an understanding– an understanding of what is to be expected and what is to be resolved. And this goes both way. A) The groomer expects the dog to be patient and capable through the entire process and the end result will follow, with plenty of affection and appreciation by the dog’s owner. B) The dog expects the groomer to be calm, meticulous, and patient as well, and the resolution lies in the ability for him to be completely satisfied with his work.

Either way you look at the end result, for me it’s all about the process. In your life, do you put emphasis on the process?

Look Forward to Wrinkles

“Laugh a lot, and when you’re older, all of your wrinkles will be in the right places.”

Playdoh, Shar Pei / Bloodhound Mix

I think people worry too much about growing old and getting wrinkles. What’s wrong with wrinkles? Look forward to them! They give you character, personality, and the perception of infinite wisdom.

Play-Doh is a Shar Pei and Bloodhound Mix from New Mexico, adopted and brought to New York City. While abandoned, this dog needed eye surgery which essentially rendered him unappealing to those who would have potentially adopted him, due to the associated cost. However, a kind man — an artist named Antony Corso — instantly fell in love with him at first sight. Now Play-Doh lives a wonderful, fulfilling, and loving life in The Big Apple.

Antony Corso is a painter and sculptor. Please check out his website and his gallery: http://www.acorso.com

Ivy & Her People

I did a shoot on Sunday with Ivy and her owners. Ivy is a young Yellow Lab– a little over 4 years old I believe. She had plenty of energy and tested my skills the entire time, but overall I have some great shots. When I received the information for this shoot, I was told I would it would be with a lab and a woman’s two grandchildren. I was surprised when the grandchildren were not little kids.

What a sweetheart! Lucas is a Cavachon — a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Bichon Frise. I did a shoot with him a few weeks ago and I ended up getting some great shots.

Liberty & Comfort

It’s nice to come home during Friday evening day light, after a long and tiresome work week, to find the one who loves you most. If only I could train her to pour me that pinot noir…

We spent the fading daylight on the roof, relaxing with the Manhattan view in the distance. Car horns, blaring music, kids screaming and all– 3 stories below.
